With Excel Viewer 97 you can open, view, and print Excel workbooks (versions 2.0 and greater), this is very useful if you don't have Excel installed in your system. You can also copy data from Excel Viewer to another program. However, you cannot edit data, save a workbook, or create a new workbook and neither will any macros contained work at all.
Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer is built to automatically configure itself as a Helper Application for Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer (it can also be manually configured as a Helper Application for other browsing tools). This allows users to automatically view Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls) that are linked to Hypertext Markup Language pages on a local area network (LAN) or the World Wide Web.
If you already have a full version of Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, Do NOT install Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer in the same directory. Currently there is no support and has been discontinued. Excel Viewer 97 is not compatible with Excel 2000 and greater workbooks.
